FAQ

1. What must I wear when visiting game lodges and parks?

The diversity of Southern Africa makes for some of the most amazing game viewing opportunities. There are vast plains, forests, gorges, swamps and deserts, so packing your luggage might seem a bit daunting. The best type of clothing to wear in game parks are cool ones, because you will be on game drives and safaris in the hot African sun. Even during the winter months (May – October), the weather is still warm during the day. Also bring a jacket for the evenings and early mornings. Closed shoes are the best to wear, especially if you are going to be going on any hiking / walking safari tours. Long trousers are also recommended for walking safaris, to prevent tick bites. Be sure to bring a sun hat of some kind and always wear a high SPF sun block.

2. When are the best times of year to visit?

Africa’s southernmost countries are situated fairly close to the equator which means that every month of the year is pleasant and warm. The summer occurs between November and March which means that the days will be very hot and the nights will be pleasant. During the winter from about May to October you will find that the days are warm and the nights are quite chilly. This is also the rainy season here which is perfect for some regions and attractions like the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and the Okavango Delta which fill up and attract tons of wildlife at this time including the Big Five. Certain attractions like the Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe, Botswana border will be best seen during summer months. There is no specific time of year that is better than another. It will depend on where you want to go and what you want to see, that determines the best time of year to visit Mother Africa.

3. What animals can be seen?

When you visit Africa, you should be prepared for a true adventure and this comes with game viewing in the unique bushveld or mopane forests. You are able to see plenty of wildlife no matter what game lodge you visit and most of them offer sightings of the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Elephant and Buffalo). Lots of areas are also havens for birds and the predatory birds like Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, Kestrels and more are found abundantly in most of the parks. When you visit the game lodges in Africa you will also witness Giraffe, Antelope of all kinds, Warthog, Crocodile, Hippopotamus, Cheetah, Hyena, Zebra, the elusive Wild Dog and much more. Don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars for the best game viewing experience.

4. What is South Africa like?

South Africa is a diverse nation consisting of 9 provinces. Each is unique in its own way and will offer visitors a wonderful getaway in tranquillity and style. The game lodges will vary from Cape Town to Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, as the scenery and climate is different. The types of animals, birds and plant life you see in each area will also vary. It is highly recommended that you visit all of the 9 provinces to experience the dramatic beauties offered by each.
